What is GetVirtual?

GetVirtual is a student-led consulting initiative that helps small businesses, nonprofits, and startups improve their digital presence. Students work on real client projects involving websites, social media, branding, and more—while gaining valuable professional experience.

What kind of work will I do?

You’ll collaborate on small teams to support a real client. Projects typically involve building or improving websites, creating digital marketing strategies, developing content, or conducting business analysis.

Can I get academic credit?

Yes, GetVirtual is connected to UCSC courses such as Crown 102: Marketing for Good or CIED Studio. Check with your advisor or the instructor to find out how to enroll for credit.

Do I need prior experience?

No. We provide onboarding, training materials, and support from experienced mentors. All you need is a willingness to learn, collaborate, and communicate professionally.

How do I apply or get involved?

You can sign up through our link, attend an info session, or reach out directly to the program coordinator. Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis.

Who can apply to GetVirtual?

Any college student with an interest in entrepreneurship, marketing, technology, design, or consulting. We welcome students from all majors and backgrounds—no prior experience is required.

How much time does it take?

Students typically spend 5–10 hours per week, depending on the project and their role. Some students enroll in a related course for credit, while others participate as interns or volunteers.

Is this a paid opportunity?

While most roles are unpaid, GetVirtual can count toward academic credit, internships, or portfolio-building. In some cases, advanced roles (team leads or mentors) may be eligible for paid positions.

What skills will I gain?

Students build skills in project management, client communication, digital marketing, web design (Wix/WordPress), branding, teamwork, and entrepreneurial thinking.

Can I use GetVirtual work in my resume or portfolio?

Absolutely. Students regularly showcase their GetVirtual projects in resumes, portfolios, and job interviews—and many have landed internships and jobs thanks to this experience.
